The soft glow of the
morning sun Links to my other pages:
Hues of red and yellow fill the horizon
Replacing the darkness of the night,
The trail is soft and swollen with water
Filled with traces of the last snow of winter
Melting where the filtered light makes it's way
Through the trees causing puddles to form
Saplings push up through the soil surrounded
By moss taking on the rich green color of life;
Crows sound an alarm to announce my presence
Squirrels chatter high in the trees
As if I was an intruder in their realm.
I come to a wooden bridge - Water flowing beneath
Rippling around rocks and broken limbs
Leaves fallen from the trees move with the flow
Waiting to be deposited - A recycling of
Nourishment for plants along the streams edge;
Turtles rest on logs seeking the warmth of the sun
Frogs starting the chorus of their spring melody
Minnows chase insects across the waters surface;
Trees that had succumb to their time provide food
Shelter for the birds dependent on them,
Woodpeckers hammer the dead trees for insects
The pounding overcomes the song of nearby birds,
Echoes replicate throughout the forest;
Days of light and warmth begin to replace the
Dormancy of winter's darkness and cold
Giving birth to a new season - As spring emerges
Once again for a celebration in God's renewal of life.
