NATURE'S ENDANGERED

Time passes with each step along the trail
Fleeting moments accompany my journey
As the day progresses with each footstep
Accompanied by a surreal silence - As if
The breath of life had been snuffed out
Absence of any presence lingers in the air.

I am engulfed in stillness - Shrouded
In a veil of a barren environment
Depleted - Consumed by indifference.
Greed and disrespect have defiled
The very essence inherent to this habitat
Purging any existence of life.

As I gaze over the desecrated landscape
Only stumps remain where trees once stood
Barren soil where vegetation once flourished
A pathetic remnant of where a great forest
Once stood - Vital to the animals and plants
Dependent on the continuance of their species.

Sorrow fills my spirit as this is a time of mourning
For again the hand of man consumes the sanctity of life
Extinguishing the very essence of God's creation.
